About This Database
Telling the stories of each victim of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States is a collaborative effort of Tribune Publishing Company newspapers. Led by Newsday, editors and reporters from all 11 Tribune newspapers are contributing to the creation of this comprehensive online memorial to the victims. Participating newspapers include the Allentown (Pa.) Morning Call, Baltimore Sun, Chicago Tribune, Greenwich Time and Stamford Advocate, Hartford Courant, Los Angeles Times, Newport News (Va.) Daily Press, South Florida Sun-Sentinel and the Orlando Sentinel.
In addition, these newspapers are collaborating in this effort with links to their profiles: The Newark Star-Ledger, The Staten Island Advance and The Journal News (Westchester, Rockland and Putnam Counties).
We will continue to add names, profiles and photographs as they become available. The names were obtained from airline manifests, New York State Supreme Court, the New York City Medical Examiner's Office, the Associated Press, articles and death notices in metro-area newspapers and World Trade Center company Web sites. Because the city of New York has not released an "official" list to the media, you may notice possible duplications or variations in spelling of a name. These will be rectified as official lists are released.
Note on Victims' Status
Victims are listed as deceased if they are confirmed dead by the coroner's office or the Defense Department. It also includes those a court has declared legally dead, even if no body has been recovered. Also listed as deceased are victims who are reported dead by family, employers, mortuaries, places of worship or by the airlines that listed them as aboard one of the four flights. Includes people for whom memorial services have been held, even if their bodies have not been recovered or positively identified.
If you or someone you know has been found and should be removed from the list, please e-mail beth.decarbo@newsday.com. Include your daytime telephone number (not for publication) for purposes of verification.
