Week 7: Pick your favorite Long Island song
LI singer John Hampson, formerly of the band Nine Days.
Well, here's a surprise! The Rascals' “Good Lovin'” beat out Billy Joel's “The Ballad of Billy the Kid” in the readers’ vote for last week’s installment of “100 Songs Every Long Islander Should Know.”
The overall Top 5 unchanged, though Harry Chapin, The Good Rats and Mountain are closing in on the Top 5. For those keeping track at home, the current standings among readers are: 1. Straylight Run, “Your Name Here (Sunrise Highway)” 2. Billy Joel, “The Downeaster 'Alexa' ” 3. The Weather Girls, “It's Raining Men” 4. The Movielife, “Jamaica Next” 5. Bayside, “Montauk”
(By the way, you can keep voting for the songs from last week or any other week here on Backstage Pass. We'll tally all the votes at the end and see which songs were the readers' favorites.)
This week’s list includes hits from Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, and Jay-Z, but something tells me Nine Days' “Absolutely (Story of a Girl)” is going to do well. Find out next week if any of these are strong enough to muscle into the Top 5.
No. 31 Nine Days
