A pair of shoes, a hat and a coat lie on Hempstead Turnpike where a man walking across the road was struck by an SUV moving westbound between Crest and Landau avenues in Elmont. The man was transported to Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, where he later died. (Dec. 30, 2010)
