Letter: Celebrity hard for Whitney

The loss of Whitney Houston is the latest example of an American cultural failure ["The tragic scene," News, Feb. 14].
Celebrity is sought and celebrated, but those who achieve it often fall victim to its excesses.
We celebrate her life and mourn her death, but we should also be mourning the cultural failure that led to the demise of our sister.
