PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Terry Collins didn’t waste any time delivering the good news. Shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday, the manager summoned all of the Mets’ five starters to his office and told them the order of the rotation.
And yes, the No. 1 will be Johan Santana.
“He’s worked very hard and he’s been very patient,” Collins said. “He’s a guy that just loves the game and loves to compete....

JUPITER, Fla. – Johan Santana made it over his final on-field hurdle on the path to Opening Day with Saturday morning’s simulated game, which was essentially pitching to Dan Warthen – without a bat in his hand.

Ike Davis has shown no ill effects after being diagnosed with Valley Fever March 4, but Collins won’t take any chances with him once the season begins, even with six off days in the first two months of the schedule. Said Collins, “As I’ve explained to Ike, it’s not whether we have enough off days, it’s what’s best for him to make sure he stays rested as we continue the healing process.’’
I’m...

Pelfrey allowed three hits and one run in 61/3 innings, a significant improvement....

Scott Hairston (oblique) took batting practice again and could make his Grapefruit League debut Wednesday.
Jason Bay (bruised left forearm) showed improvement, but the Mets chose to have him skip batting practice. "Just to let that arm rest a little bit rather than aggravate that a little more," Terry Collins said. "I plan on playing him [Tuesday] if he's OK." ...
